Hello!
I'm Julie Koon, author and illustrator of books for kids! I create art using a variety of mediums, including colored pencils, gouache, watercolor, and an iPad.
I'm also a preschool teacher and former school counselor. I'm passionate about creating books that explore emotions and help children of all ages navigate their big, wide world. I live outside of Boston with my husband and three kids.

It all started with this mini Julie (and yes, I desperately wish they made this outfit in grown-up sizes). I spent my childhood exploring and making art in all kinds of ways. I have a very creative mom, and she was always planning new projects for us. I sewed, embroidered, painted, made clay fairy houses, pipe cleaner animals, and did paper-mache. I truly tried it all. We were avid library-goers and I was always armed with stacks of books.
But it wasn't until I had children of my own and through my work as a school counselor, that I knew I wanted to make books. I saw the magic of kids being able to see themselves and their feelings reflected on the page. We both came away changed.
And now, I get to spend my days not only reading books to kids, but making them too! Sharing my books with real-life children is the absolute best part of being a writer and illustrator! And I still come away changed.
